Ask What Instead of Why

Why is often a powerful question but it can indicate judgement and put someone on the defensive. Why also can be very introspective as opposed to concrete and action oriented.
Try asking What Questions Instead of Why.
Examples - Instead of:
Why is that important to you?
TRY
What about that is important?
Why does this happen?
TRY
What can I change about this situation?
